In the rush to find the latest muscle building supplements, it’s easy for side effects to be overshadowed in favor of benefits. While research supports Testofen, a fenugreek brand, as an effective testosterone booster, what do we really know about its side effects?
When researching any supplement, you should always read as much about the side effects as the benefits. This way, you can decide if the benefits outweigh the side effects.
Certain herbs such as fenugreek have different side effects depending on dosage and duration of use. To gain insight into Testofen’s safety and potential risks, researchers examined Testofen’s effects on male libido.
In this study, 60 healthy males between the ages of 25 and 52 were gathered for a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial. Participants were given either a placebo or 600 mg Testofen divided into two doses for 6 weeks.
According to the study, no adverse events were recorded during the clinical trial, and the product was well tolerated. Three participants, however, reported slight stomach discomfort when taking it without food.
Testofen Side Effects
While Testofen was determined safe in this study, some experts found fenugreek caused gastrointestinal issues, diarrhea, bloating, and nasal congestion when taken in amounts larger than normally found in food.
Additional side effects include coughing, wheezing, facial swelling, and allergic reactions in hypersensitive individuals.
Some believe fenugreek lowers blood sugar as well, so those with diabetes need to monitor blood sugar levels carefully.
Side Effects of Increased Testosterone Levels
While Testofen itself might not have many side effects, it indirectly causes several side effects by increasing testosterone production. For example, elevated testosterone levels exacerbate male pattern baldness, also called androgenic alopecia.
Increasing testosterone levels beyond their normal range also causes an imbalance in estrogen and other hormones, leading to gynecomastia, an enlargement of breast tissue.
Additionally, sperm production is often decreased when men increase testosterone levels.
In both men and women, increasing testosterone levels often results in an increase of facial and body hair, voice deepening, and causes women to develop masculine characteristics.
Too much testosterone is also linked to behavioral changes in men and women. This includes radical shifts in attitude, mood, and behavior. This is often accompanied with irritability, depression, and increased aggression.
Purported Testofen Side Effects
Anecdotal side effects from Testofen users on forums include a change in prolactin levels. Prolactin is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland, and can lead to several complications when elevated. For men this includes impotence, reduced libido, and infertility.
Should You Use Testofen?
Testofen is considered safe and is an effective testosterone boosting supplement. Naturally increasing testosterone with Testofen boosts sex drive, energy, and vitality. If you are allergic to fenugreek or experience any symptoms or side effects, however, discontinue using Testofen and speak with a doctor.
